Basil from Prà
La Toscana: Uncategorized
This is a very small basil cultivated in a greenhouse, very tender and with an intense aroma. The yield is high since you can also eat the stem without problems. Much care is dedicated to the selection of the seed to which very select plants are germinated and to the natural sterilization of the ground. This natural method practically “seals” the plants and the ground with a nylon covering, where the temperature on sunny days can reach 100° and the total lack of air make sure all parasites are eliminated on both the plants and the ground.
This basil is a typical Genovese and is the ideal representative of what created the legend of Ligurian pesto, made with a unique basil, not found anywhere else since this one is cultivated near the coast and has “absorbed” the sea air.
A demonstration of how this binomial is indissoluble comes from boats, another symbol of Ligurian nature. On ships and boats even today there is a part of the boat called “the small garden” because it is the area reserved by Genovese sailors to growing the basil plant which even on the high seas they are loath to renounce to.
